WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Lebanese Pop: This choreography workshop combines street dance, jazz technique, and raqs sharqi for a sassy yet strong dance. Esmeralda will talk about the evolution of the Lebanese music industry including the names that changed it all and the importance of culture and society togetherness in times of political crises.
Tabla Quotes: Esmeralda was inspired by the atemporal quotes we all have, coming from generations, when she created this workshop. We’ll use different Tabla (darbuka) phrases (not rhythms) in order to explore and get deeper into technique and body language essentials when it comes to raqs sharqi. In total, we’ll be dancing on 10 different tabla quotes specially developed for this class.
Arm Lab: This workshop is all about arms and "its area" which Esmeralda calls "the superior triangle". She’ll talk about the importance, intentions, quantity and quality of movements and how much it can deeply change your dialogue with the audience. This is a technique-heavy class with 3 small combinations.
Taksim Experience: Meet our guides and main stars: flute, qanoun, violin and accordion. We'll dive into its history, level of intensity, level of importance in music/Arabic history, intention and how close each one is to our body. Get ready to dance through guided combinations and for your own improvisation piece.
